“OUR FUTURE BELONGS TO THE CHILDREN”
In 1988 four teachers from Leominster High School conceived the idea of beginning a Leominster High School Alumni Scholarship Fund to assist graduating seniors in their quest for continuing education. After much planning, the proposal was presented to the superintendent of schools and the Leominster School Committee and was given their full support and endorsement.
We have come a long way since then, but know there is still much to be done. Our original goal of $100,000 was at the time a challenging figure. However, as we all know, with the soaring costs of education this base amount does not allow us to recognize and help the many deserving graduates at Leominster High School.
The Fund receives contributions from alumni and friends of Leominster High, memorial donations and estate legacies. Some donations have been quite substantial and have helped bring our principal to over $250,000.
A plaque recognizing names of memorial donors and friends who have made significant donations hangs near the entrance to the school. There is also a display case listing the donations made by each class from 1910 to present.
Over the past twelve years 160 scholarships, totaling nearly $100,000 have been awarded. The monies for these awards come strictly from the interest earned. The principal remains to accrue interest for future scholarships and it is this principal we must strive to increase.
Our new goal is $1,000,000. Ambitious? Yes, but our students are worth it… they are our future. Won’t you help?
